My Story

Hey there! I’m Derrick Henderson Jr., and yes — I once tackled a lot of people. How many? 375 tackles at Inderkum High School — a record that’s still standing (probably because no one wants to risk it).

But of course, life had other plans. Senior night of my senior year, with two unofficial offers from UC Davis and Wyoming and a preferred walk-on spot at San Jose State, I tore my ACL and meniscus. Suddenly, those offers disappeared faster than my knee stability.

Determined to bounce back, I enrolled at American River College. That’s where I fell in love with the human body — specifically, how it works, how it breaks, and how to fix it. I discovered I was quad-dominant, which explained why my body had betrayed me. Using what I learned, I rehabbed myself, rebuilt my strength, and realized my true calling: educating young athletes to help prevent injuries and train smarter.

I later transferred to UNLV, diving deeper into sports science and helping a kid get ready to try out for their football team. Watching him improve in speed, agility, physique, and game IQ — and knowing I had a part in that — confirmed I was on the right path.

Eventually, I moved back to Sacramento to give back to my community. My mission is simple: teach athletes how to move better, train smarter, and stay injury-free.

Here’s what you’ll get when you train with me:

  • Someone who knows the ups and downs of being an athlete (and the drama of torn ACLs)

  • Someone who prefers quality over quantity

  • A trainer who studies sports medicine and actually applies it

  • A coach who learns something new every day

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, trying to reach the next level, or just want to move better, I’m here to help you reach your goals safely and effectively — with a little humor along the way.
